Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowsi continues to strike gold with out-of-state prospects, this time bolstering his future defensive line with a huge commitment from 4-star DL Justice Finkley. Finkley, 6-2, 255 lbs., plays at Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, Alabama, a little over an hour northeast of Tuscaloosa.
Finkley was offered by the Longhorns in March and took his official visit to Austin on June 25th. He subsequently announced his Top 3 of Alabama, Colorado and Texas on July 4th.
He received scholarship offers from more than 30 programs including Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Oregon and Texas A&M. He made his decision official on Thursday when he committed to the Texas Longhorns.
In his junior season with the Huskies, he registered 4 sacks, 82 tackles and six tackles for loss.
Academics likely played a large role in Finkley’s decision, as the big man wants to keep a balance of academics and football after high school. His parents both work in the education arena, and each holds a doctoral degree.
Finkley is ranked as the 6th best player in the state of Alabama, the 19th best defensive lineman in the country and the 112th best player in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
His commitment vaults Texas to #3 in the team rankings and gives the Longhorns a total of 21 commitments in the Class of 2022. He joins defensive line commits Zac Swanson (Brophy College Preparatory – Phoenix, AZ), Aaron Bryant (Southaven High School – Southaven, MS), Kristopher Ross (North Shore High School, Houston, TX) and Jaray Bledsoe (Marlin High School – Marlin, TX) as defensive line commits in the class.
