The Texas Longhorns have added an unexpected boost to their 2026 roster as five-star defensive back John Meredith III has officially reclassified from the 2027 class and will join the program this fall.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian announced the news during SEC Media Days, confirming that Meredith III, who had already been committed to Texas, will enroll immediately and be part of the Longhorns’ roster for the 2026 season.
The move is a significant win for Texas. Widely regarded as the nation’s top cornerback in the 2027 recruiting class, Meredith III accelerates his college career and gives the Longhorns one of the most talented young defensive backs in the country.
At 6-foot-2, Meredith III possesses the size, length, and wingspan college programs covet at the cornerback position. The announcement comes after Meredith III was ruled ineligible to play high school football following his transfer from Euless Trinity High School to North Crowley High School.
