The Texas Longhorns continue to build momentum in the 2027 recruiting cycle, landing one of their top defensive targets with the commitment of safety Junior Tu’upo from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. Tu’upo picks Texas over Alabama, Oregon, Auburn, and Indiana.
Tu’upo gives Texas a long, athletic defensive back with the versatility to play safety, nickel, or cornerback. He excels in run support, gets downhill quickly, takes outstanding angles to the football, and brings the physical style coaches covet on the back end of the defense.
In coverage, Tu’upo showcases excellent range, speed, and ball skills. His length and instincts allow him to match up with multiple offensive threats, making him a valuable piece in the Longhorns’ secondary. While he has the ability to play several positions, he projects as an impact safety or nickel at the collegiate level.
Last season, Tu’upo totaled 66 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three interceptions, proving he can consistently make plays against both the run and the pass.
With Tu’upo now in the fold, Texas continues to stack elite defensive talent as its 2027 recruiting class quickly takes shape. His versatility, athleticism, and playmaking ability make him another outstanding addition to the Longhorns’ future defense.
