The Texas Longhorns have secured the foundation of their 2028 recruiting class, landing a commitment from four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence of American Heritage High School in Florida. The 6-foot-1, 210 pound signal caller becomes the first pledge of Texas’ 2028 class, giving Steve Sarkisian another talented quarterback to build around as the Longhorns continue their recruiting momentum.
Lawrence is regarded as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks and he has an advanced skill set. He is a polished passer with excellent command of the offense, processes defenses quickly, and consistently makes smart decisions with the football. His ability to extend plays outside the pocket while maintaining accuracy makes him especially dangerous, and he has the athleticism to create when protection breaks down. Whether delivering from the pocket or throwing on the move, Lawrence displays the poise and football IQ that project well to the college level.
As a freshman, Lawrence earned MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors after throwing for 2,777 yards and 31 touchdowns while adding four rushing scores. His efficiency stood out, as he limited mistakes throughout the season, throwing just four interceptions while establishing himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in the 2028 class.
Landing Lawrence is a significant recruiting victory for Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee. Texas continues to attract elite quarterback talent, and the commitment of Lawrence gives the Longhorns an early cornerstone for the 2028 recruiting cycle. With his arm talent, mobility, leadership, and advanced understanding of the game, Lawrence has all the tools to develop into another high-level quarterback in Austin as the Longhorns continue building toward the future.
