LUBBOCK — Â Julien Lewis sank a jumper at the free throw line with :2 seconds left in overtime, as Texas toppled Texas Tech 71-69 in the Big-12 regular season finale at the United Center in Lubbock on Saturday.
The Longhorns (16-17, 7-11 ) will now face TCU on Wednesday in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big-12 tournament at 8:30pm.
Texas’ Sheldon McClellan dropped a game-high 28 points, and has sank 35 out of his last 37 free throws.
The Longhorn’s staged an 11-2 run to end the first half, and almost erased a 16-point deficit as Texas Tech led by seven at halftime, 37-30. Tech’s Jaye Crockett (10-19, 3-15 ) had a team-high 15 points and eight boards. Jordan Tolbert (11) and Josh Gray (11) combined for 22 points, with Tolbert pulling down seven rebounds.
Myck Kabongo had easilt his worst game of the year. The Toronto native notched seven points on 0-for-12 shooting, but had nine assists, and four steals.
Texas opened second half on a 8-2 run, getting within one, 39-38 at the 15:32 mark.
