AUSTIN — Â If a ‘clutch gene’ exists, Texas shortstop C.J. Hinojosa has it in spades.
The freshman sensation drilled a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 walk-off win against UC-Santa Barbara (8-6) on Saturday at UFCU Disch Falk Field on Saturday. Texas will try to complete the sweep of the Gauchos tomorrow at noon.
It was Hinojosa’s second game-winning hit this season, his last on Feb 23rd vs Nebraska, something he’s getting to used to.
Texas (9-5) Ty Marlow got the win, going 3 1/3 innings in relief, dropping his ERA to .097. Starter Dillon Peters went 5 2/3, yielding two runs
Down to their final out in the ninth, with Weiss at first, Payton walked, with Hinojosa sitting in the on-deck circle. Down to two strikes, Hinojosa sent the 0-2 pitch off the right field wall.
