Folks, we are midway through the college football season! Â With many crucial games on the college football slate this weekend and with the Texas Longhorns enjoying a bye week, I suggest you take it easy this weekend. Â Sit on the couch for countless hours and catch as many games as you can.
Here are my picks for the week.
Florida at Missouri
I want to believe that Ole Mizzou can win this game. I really want to. However, Matey Mauk is still a freshman and putting up amazing numbers in high school doesn’t mean you can do it against a stout Gators defense. I like Florida in this game.
Florida wins 21-10
UCLA at Stanford.
Stanford got caught looking ahead in Salt Lake City and got beat by the Utah Utes. UCLA hasn’t been challenged at all this season and they have struggled in the past against the Cardinal. I like the home team to bounce back and send UCLA home with their first loss.
Stanford wins 28-21
Auburn at Texas A&M
The Aggies were almost caught napping in Oxford but were able to escape with a win. Now it will be a battle of Mack Brown castoffs in Nick Marshall versus Johnny Manziel. Auburn has been a surprise team in 2013 but I don’t think they the firepower to keep up with Johnny Football.
Texas A&M wins this one 45-31
Iowa at Ohio State
Speaking of surprises, the Iowa Hawkeyes are 4-2 on the season. Ohio State has had some close calls so far this season but have survived. If you think Texas fans are unhappy with Mack Brown, you haven’t met Iowa fans. The Iowa administration gave Kirk Ferentz a very favorable deal till 2020 with an $18 million dollar buyout. Yikes. Hawkeyes fans have to hope Ferentz can get it turned around because unlike Texas, Iowa doesn’t have $18 million sitting around to get a new coach. Ferentz for all his faults seems to do well against the Buckeyes. I like them as my upset special of the week.
Iowa wins 34-32
UCF at LouisvilleÂ
This is the best Friday night college football game this season (at least one that isn’t played the day after Thanksgiving). UCF is a strong football program. They gave South Carolina all they could handle and beat Penn State in State College. Louisville was uninspiring against Rutgers but were able to get the win. I think this will be another close game but many more points that last Thursday’s snoozefest.
Louisville wins 45-38
Florida State at Clemson
ESPN just can’t stop promoting big games they air. You notice it when they have a weak Monday Night Football game, they barely recognize it but on the off chance they get a very good Monday Night football game they can’t shut up about it. That has been the case since both Florida State and Clemson won last Saturday. ARMAGEDDON!!! Or a football game against two top 5 opponents. I do think this will be an outstanding game. Clemson has proven itself capable of winning big night games and the Seminoles haven’t been tested yet. I like Clemson to make a statement in this game.
Clemson wins 41-28.Â
