The same day that Jim Schlossnagle picked up Stanford shortstop Temo Becerra from the portal, he struck gold with another highly sought after transfer product. Notre Dame star catcher Carson Tinney announced via social media that he would play baseball next season for Schlossnagle and the Longhorns.
Tinney, who recently finished his sophmore season in South Bend, was named as a semifinalist for the 2025 Dick Howser Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in college baseball. He was also 2025 Buster Posey Award Finalist, a 2025 Baseball America First Team All-American and was 2025 All-ACC First Team.
Tinney finished the season with a .348 average and 17 home runs.
With Rylan Galvan’s likely departure in the upcoming MLB Draft, Tinney will slide in to the catcher role next season seamlessly.
