OMAHA, Neb. — A strong postseason push by No. 6 Texas came to a halt Tuesday night, as No. 3 Georgia secured a 2-0 victory in a low-scoring Men’s College World Series matchup at Charles Schwab Field.
With the loss, the Longhorns close the 2026 campaign at 46-15, finishing tied for fifth in the nation after their 39th trip to Omaha.
Pitching took center stage throughout, highlighted by an impressive final outing from graduate left-hander Luke Harrison. The southpaw delivered 11 strikeouts — a career best — across 5 2/3 innings, surrendering just one run. Early dominance set the tone, as Harrison fanned eight of the first 10 hitters he faced and carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Georgia’s Tre Phelps broke through with a two-out RBI double.
That performance also pushed Harrison past the 100-strikeout mark for the season. He joined Ruger Riojas and Dylan Volantis in reaching the milestone, marking the first time since 1988 that three Texas pitchers have each recorded 100 or more strikeouts in the same year.
Trouble loomed in the sixth inning when Georgia loaded the bases with two outs, but freshman Sam Cozart stepped in and delivered a key strikeout to end the threat. From there, the National Freshman Pitcher of the Year kept the Bulldogs in check, allowing just one run on three hits the rest of the way while adding six strikeouts. His standout debut season concludes with a 1.72 ERA.
Offensively, Texas struggled to generate momentum against Georgia’s pitching staff. Right-handers Dylan Vigue and Justin Byrd combined for a four-hit shutout, striking out 12 and consistently limiting scoring opportunities. It was only the second time all season the Longhorns were held without a run.
