Texas’ comeback win over Ohio State produced a pair of conference awards Monday.
Quarterback Arch Manning was voted the SEC’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week, and left tackle Trevor Goosby shared the league’s Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week honor after the Longhorns’ 24-23 victory in Austin.
The awards followed a game in which Texas looked finished entering the final quarter. Instead, the Longhorns found a way to reverse a 20-point deficit, scoring on each of their final three meaningful possessions and taking the lead in the closing seconds.
For Manning, the recognition centers on more than the final stat line. Texas needed its quarterback to make pressure throws, extend possessions and remain composed after an uneven first three quarters. He did all three.
The senior was especially effective when Ohio State had opportunities to end the game. Two fourth-down conversions kept Texas alive, and Manning delivered the throws that created a path to each of the Longhorns’ final scoring chances.
His touchdown throw to Ryan Wingo gave Texas momentum. A later fourth-down completion to Emmett Mosley helped turn the game from a long-shot comeback into a one-score contest. Manning again found Mosley on the final march, moving the ball to the doorstep of the end zone before Texas finished the drive with the go-ahead score.
Texas has now won 11 straight games at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, and Manning remains unbeaten as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback at home.
Goosby’s Performance Stands Out
Goosby’s honor reflects the role Texas’ offensive line played in a comeback that required sustained execution rather than one quick strike.
The Longhorns’ final three touchdown drives demanded patience, physicality and clean protection. Texas moved the ball consistently late, controlling the fourth quarter while limiting Ohio State’s chances to answer.
Goosby did not surrender a sack or a quarterback pressure against the Buckeyes. His work also helped Texas establish enough balance on offense to keep Ohio State from selling out against Manning and the passing game.
Hollywood Smothers scored twice and led Texas in rushing, while Raleek Brown provided a productive complement on the ground. Together, the Longhorns ran for 141 yards against an Ohio State defense that had held the upper hand for much of the afternoon.
The honors are the latest individual recognition for a Texas team that has opened the season 2-0. Linebacker Rasheem Biles earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors following the opening weekend, giving the Longhorns three weekly conference award recipients through two games.
