Four-Star WR Daylan McCutcheon Commits to Texas

Daylan McCutcheon’s flip to Texas is a major recruiting win for the Longhorns, as they continue to build a top-five class for 2025. Originally committed to Florida State, McCutcheon decided to stay closer to home and join Steve Sarkisian’s high-powered offense in Austin. At Lovejoy High School, McCutcheon has developed into one of the top wide receiver prospects in the country, showcasing a diverse skill set that has college coaches raving.

At 6-foot, 180 pounds, McCutcheon has the frame and skill set that makes him an attractive prospect. He is a savvy route runner who can dissect defensive coverages, getting open early in his routes. His quickness in space allows him to create separation consistently, and he excels at finding soft spots in the defense. This ability to get open, combined with his elite hands, makes him a reliable target on short and intermediate routes.

Where McCutcheon really stands out is in his ability to gain yards after the catch. His acceleration and agility in the open field make him a threat to turn short passes into big plays. He has excellent field vision, allowing him to weave through defenders with ease. McCutcheon possesses the speed to take the top off a defense, making him a deep threat who can stretch the field. His versatility to hurt defenses in multiple ways fits perfectly with Sarkisian’s offensive system, which emphasizes speed, space, and playmaking ability.

By flipping to Texas, McCutcheon adds to an already elite recruiting class that ranks among the top five in the nation. His commitment provides the Longhorns with another dynamic weapon to pair with other top recruits, strengthening their receiving corps for the future. With Texas now in the SEC, securing a player like McCutcheon, who has the talent to compete at the highest level, is critical for their long-term success. His decision also reflects Texas’s growing ability to keep elite talent within the state, winning head-to-head battles with national powerhouses like Florida State.

In McCutcheon, Texas is getting a complete receiver who can make an immediate impact in their offense and help solidify their position as one of the top programs in the country.
