The Big XII Baseball Tournament will commence on Wednesday May 23rd at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City and end next Sunday with one team staking its claim as tournament champion. The Texas Longhorns have won the Big XII baseball tournament 4 times since 1997, with their last championship coming in 2009. That 2009 Texas team had enough to make it to the College World Series Finals where they lost in 3 games to the LSU Tigers. Do they have what it takes to win a conference championship this year? Absolutely. Will they? We will have to wait and see. The Longhorns open up play on Wednesday at 7:30 pm against the Missouri Tigers, a team they lost 2 of 3 to in Columbia earlier this month. Assuming they beat the Tigers they will next face the winner of the Texas A&M/Kansas game which precedes their game on Wednesday. Texas needs to win a few games to feel good about their position in an upcoming NCAA Regional, which will likely be in Baton Rouge or Houston. The ‘Horns need great pitching and a solid offense if they want to progress past Missouri and then the Aggies, who are the #2 seed. Texas finished the regular season 3rd in the Big XII (behind #1 Baylor and #2 Texas A&M) with an overall record of 30-20 and a conference record of 14-10. “Horns up? Hell yeah.
