Parker French was forced to call it quits for the season earlier this month with a stress fracture in his pitching elbow, but that did not stop the young right-hander from picking up post-season conference accolades. On the eve of the Big XII Baseball Tournament which takes place in Oklahoma City, French was named Big XII Freshman of the Year. He had a 6-2 record with a 2.84 ERA in 66.2 innings pitched and had solidified his place as a legitimate ace in an already depleted Texas pitching corps. French left the Missouri game on May 4th after pitching 4 1/3 innings due to the injury. He notched the win as Texas beat Missouri 6-4 in Columbia.
Five other Longhorn baseball players received Big XII honors including Corey Knebel, Erich Weiss, Jacob Felts, Hoby Milner and Mark Payton. Knebel and Weiss were selected as part of the All-Big XII First Team while Felts, Milner and Payton were named to the conference’s all-second team.
