Emeka Megwa is just getting started as an incoming sophomore for Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, Texas. The 2022 running back already holds 15 offers from top schools around the nation. Megwa tells HornSports what he is looking for in a school and what impresses him about the Texas Longhorns.
Most high school football players have to wait until their junior or senior seasons to receive the amount of offers rising sophomore Emeka Megwa has under his belt.
Megwa’s freshman campaign of 642 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries, impressed college scouts enough to get his offer list rolling early.
Including Texas, who recently offered Megwa on May 7, the Nolan Catholic product has offers from Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Texas A&M to name a few.
At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Megwa is large for a running back at his age, yet his stature does not affect his skill or speed. At the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp in Dallas back in March, Megwa impressed among a group of smaller running backs.
He showed he has the power to run through tackles but also the skill and speed necessary to be a an efficient pass catcher.
His performance at the Rivals camp earned him position MVP.
It was after his camp performance that Megwa’s offer list started to heat up, receiving nine offers in the two months that followed.
While most schools in Megwa’s home state of Texas have already expressed their interest, the offer from the Longhorns still made a dent in his memory.
“It was huge, I was really, really, surprised.”
Though Megwa was born in Chicago, Illinois, after he moved to the Lone Star State, it was all Longhorns all the time.
“When I moved here they were the team everyone would talk about.”
Now that he has had contact with Texas as a recruit, he listed what he likes most about the program.
“Their running backs coach has coached many good players.”
Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton, has had many impressive pupils. Including the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jordan Howard and Dallas Cowboys star running back, Ezekiel Elliot.
Megwa has not visited the Longhorns yet, but he says he is planning on making the trip to the 40 Acres at some point.
When asked what he looks for in a school, the young recruit expressed that he just wants a place that he can fall in love with.
