Game 2: Stanford 5 – Texas 3
A night after failing to erase a two run deficit and stranding 14 baserunners, Texas visited the other end of frustration on Friday night. Instead of playing from behind, the Longhorns could not hold on to a three run lead, losing Game 2 to Stanford, 5-3. The loss is the Longhorns fourth in a row after winning seven games in a row.
Kacy Clemens started for the Horns, pitching an unremarkable 5.1 innings, and allowing 3 earned runs. Kirby Bellow came on in relief of Clemens and took the loss. Sophomore Chris Viall earned the win for the Cardinal.
In the top of the second inning, Taylor Stell staked Texas to a 3-0 lead when he lined a homerun over the left field fence. The Cardinals responded with a pair of runs in the home half of the second, two more in the sixth, and a single run tacked on in the eighth.
