The Texas Longhorns, ranked No. 1, swept the No. 9 Auburn Tigers in a three-game SEC series this past weekend at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin to win their 6th straight SEC series. Here is a how each game of the series shook out for the best team in college baseball:
- Game 1 (Thursday, April 17): Texas defeated Auburn 3-2 in the series opener. Auburn’s Ike Irish hit a two-run homer in the 3rd inning, giving the Tigers an early lead. The Longhorns responded with an RBI single from Ethan Mendoza and a game-tying double by Jalin Flores. Senior Kimble Schuessler smashed a solo home run in the 7th inning, securing the win for Texas.
- Game 2 (Friday, April 18): The Longhorns dominated this game en route to an 8-3 victory. Ike Irish continued his strong performance at the plate with two home runs, but Texas’ offense proved too much. Key contributions came from Jayden Duplantier, who doubled to drive in a run, and true freshman Jonah Williams, who added three RBIs. Kimble Schuessler continued strong play in the series, contributing on both sides of the ball.
- Game 3 (Saturday, April 19): Texas completed the sweep with a commanding 14-2 run-rule win over the Tigers. The Longhorns’ bats were on fire, and the pitching staff kept Auburn’s offense in check. Kimble Schuessler’s eight RBI’s in the game were the first by a Texas player since 2008. The sweep was the sixth of the season and their second against a Top-10 team in the last three weeks.
The Longhorns will next play the Texas State Bobcats on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Bobcat Park in San Marcos with the game being televised on ESPN+.
