The first one for Rick Barnes and Texas hoops in 2014 is a big one. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Horns men’s basketball program garnered their first commit of the 2014 class today, only months from Signing Day. ESPN 100 forward Jordan Barnett from St Louis, Mo. (Christian Brothers College) gave  Barnes his pledge, per Austin American Statesman’s Mark Rossner.  The 6-foot-7, 180-lb small forward held offers from Butler, Florida, Kansas State, and Michigan among others.
The versatile Barnett is a decent shooter, average ball-handler, with outstanding athleticism and a frame to add plenty of muscle. He excels in the open court with highlight-worthy fast break dunks and an impressive wingspan.
This comes on the heels of new that sophomore Ioannis Papapetrou is being courted by two EuroLeague pro teams and may not return to Austin.
