Lubbock – Charlie Strong’s Longhorns defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 34-13 on Saturday night to improve to 4-5 on the season (3-3 in Big 12 play).
Quandre Diggs knocked starting Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes out of the game in the 2nd quarter with a big hit, allowing walk-on QB Vincent Testaverde to field playing time for the Red Raiders.
Texas running back Malcolm Brown eclipsed the 100 yard mark for the first time this season, finishing with 116 yards on 22 attempts (5.3 avg. per carry) and 2 TD’s.
QB Tyrone Swoopes threw for 228 yards and 1 TD, with senior WR John Harris being the recipient of 165 of those yards.
Texas placekicker Nick Rose hit field goals of 46 & 42 yards in the win.
The Longhorns need to win two of their last three games to be bowl eligible, with the West Virginia Mountaineers coming to Austin next Saturday.
