Sad news out of Austin this morning, as Longhorn Legend James Street, QB of the 1969 National Championship Team at Texas, has died this morning of a heart attack. He was 65.
Street was undefeated as a starter under legendary coach Darrell Royal, and had historic wins over Arkansas in the Game of the Century, and Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl Classic. Street played under coach Darrell Royal. In addition to being an elite quarterback, he was also a right-handed pitcher on the Longhorns baseball team, and threw two no-hitters in helping lead Texas to two Southwest Conference titles. James Street is the father of another Longhorn Legend, Huston Street, who went on to play Major League Baseball.
Current Texas head coach Mack Brown said the following from his Twitter account this morning:
Funeral arraignments are pending at this time.
Our condolences to the Street family from all of us here at Horn Sports.
