The Texas Longhorns kick off against their arch rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, in less than 12 hours. The Sooners have largely dominated the series against Mack Brown, particularly the last two years. With his coaching career at Texas likely on the line, Mack Brown needs to pull off the seemingly impossible and upset OU.  Though extremely difficult, it’s not impossible, and here is how it can happen.

1. Start fast

Very simple, but something Texas fails to do in just about every game. Instead of trying to “weather the storm” come out and be the storm. Hit the Sooners in the mouth. Shock them. Let them know they are in for a fight.

2. Do something different than the same old stuff

I honestly don’t know what the Texas offense should look like, as I never know from game to game who interfered with what and so on. This time, one offensive coordinator needs to take the reigns and be innovative. Do things Texas normally does not do, like get the ball in the hands of guys like Daje Johnson and Jalen Overstreet. Throw caution to the wind and leave it all out on the field.

3. Make tackles not highlights for the Sooners

Again, very simple, but stop things like the highlight reel 73 yard catch and run Trey Millard had. Hit the ball carrier hard and get him down, every single time.

So there it is folks, very simple things the Longhorns have not done against the Sooners, things which could lead to a huge upset tomorrow. Will we see any of this? I don’t know, but if we do, things could get real interesting in Austin.
