The Texas Longhorns (1-1) and the Texas A&M Aggies (4-0) will meet on the hardwood on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament held at Imperial Arena in the Bahamas. The game marks the 223rd time these former conference rivals will have met, with the Longhorns holding a 137-85 all-time series advantage.
The last meeting between the two schools was in 2012. Texas guard J’Covan Brown scored 20 points, helping the Longhorns escape College Station with a 70-68 win.
The Longhorns have won five straight against the Aggies.
Texas A&M is ranked 25th in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and are averaging 93.5 points per game in their four wins. Freshman Center Tyler Davis leads the Aggies in scoring with 15.3 points per game.
Through two games Texas’ Cameron Ridley is averaging 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. In Saturday’s victory against Texas A&M Corpus-Christi Ridley tied a career high 14 rebounds.
Texas is one of eight teams competing in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The tournament includes Syracuse, UCONN, Michigan, Texas, Gonzaga, Washington, Texas A&M and Charlotte.
Regardless of the Wednesday’s outcome, Texas will play again on Thanksgiving. A win over the Aggies would match Texas up with the winner of the Gonzaga – Washington game. A loss pits the Longhorns up with the loser of the Gonzaga-Washington matchup with a best-case scenario of finishing 5th in the tournament.
