The truth is that if this team goes 1-11, 2-10, or 3-9, Charlie will be forced to make some coaching changes to save his job and that still might not be enough.  If he does save his job then he he has next year to put this team on a winning track if not he will be fired.  Talent or no talent this is what Charlie is now facing .

Not hiring an elite staff in the first place will be his downfall

If Strong falls, it will be mostly Mack Browns fault.
I don't quite understand what you mean by "If Strong falls."  If we are talking about him very quickly losing his job before he has had an adequate opportunity to build his talent base, it will be because he did not ingratiate himself with powerful donors and the administration.

If we are talking about team failure, then would team failure "mostly" be Mack Brown's fault?

Last year, definitely.

This year, probably, but Strong's share of the blame is growing.

Next year, probably not.

Fourth year, definitely not.

I just find it very odd watching other teams who talked about rebuilding.  Just a few of them:

Florida  5-0:  A terrible team in 2013 4-8, and went 2014 7-5 just beat up on #3 Ole Miss a year later 38-10 with a new Head Coach after replacing former DC Will Muscamp.  Florida was a horrible football team under Muscamp.  This year 38-10 vs #3 Ole Miss, um folks we lost to #4 TCU 30-0 in the first quarter.

Michigan  4-1:  Last year 5-7 and hired Jim Harbaugh.  Their competition is pretty mediocre but we struggled vs Rice.  Atleast his team is disciplined and is winning.

Two new coaches 9-1.

We are 6-7 in year 1 and now 1-4 and will probably be 1-5 soon.

Yea yea I have heard it already.....ITS ALL MACKS FAULT cause our entire roster has zero talent except for the freshmen.  A good coaching staff can develop even untalented players to be somewhat productive.  "Try Hards" if you please.

I doubt we win more than 3 games this year.

Strong looks beat down after every blowout.  Last year after the BYU blowout he looked pissed.  Now its more of a "Oh Dear God what have I gotten myself into"  I am beginning to wonder how much he really wants to be here.  You have to admit hes not typical camera whore you almost have to be to Head Coach at Texas.  He is a great guy and I feel for him.  He needs a consultant on any staff hires.

If he is ousted after this season it will be due to Brown leaving a dumpster fire to build upon.

The fact people keep comparing Texas' roster with Michigan and Florida is hilarious.

Florida could have anywhere from 5 to 8 guys drafted this year (Hargreaves, Bullard, Robinson, Mcgee, Morrison, Thurman, Cox, and Poole). Muschamp had talent he just wasn't winning with the talent (it's why he had 8 guys drafted in the '15 draft).

Michigan also has 3 to 6 guys that could be drafted this year (Butt, Charlton, Lewis, Henry, Isaac, and Kalis). Not to mention Michigan starts essentially all upperclassmen.

Texas will be lucky to have more than 2 players drafted over the next 2 years. Ridgeway is the only player right now with really any draft value. Texas has nowhere near the talent level of Michigan and Florida. Strong would absolutely love to have Florida's roster now, it's loaded with defensive talent that's experienced. Texas is closer to what Kansas has than what Florida and Michigan have, that should be your comparison. How is Kansas doing this year with a new coach and that roster?

We don't have much talent outside of the freshman.

Just go look at some mock drafts and tell me why Ridgeway is really the only player out of all the juniors and seniors that really have any draft value? There's a reason almost every draft analyst says we don't have talent, it's because we don't.

Here's two of the most respected draft analysts. Feel free to explain to me where all this upperclassmen talent is, I'll wait and gladly discuss.

Lets take for example Doyle.  While we both agree Doyle shouldnt even be starting.  Explain to me how Doyle lined straight up against the DT for TCU but Doyle shifted left at the snap to help the left guard block his man and let his guy run up the middle untouched to sack Heard on 3rd for 8 yard loss.  Is that talent driven?  More like blocking assignments which are taught by coaches.  Letting a DT sack your QB because you cant block physically is one thing letting him run right by you because you never intended to block him is not a talent problem.

I think trying to make any type of evaluation of the coaching staff based off Doyle is just misguided.

Doyle has no understanding of the game, has no physical capabilities, is soft, and tastes the grass on every other play. Doyle isn't fixable or coachable. You either have it or you don't, and Doyle doesn't have it. I mean at this point, I think Wickline is just hoping Doyle can make clean exchanges with the QB on the snap.

Coaches like Wickline and Bedford didn't just magically become shitty coaches over night. Why do you think Bedford fielded 5 top 25 defenses in a row and now this? The trend stopped for the same reason Wickline is having trouble on the offensive line after fielding elite offensive lines year after year at OSU, talent.

But wait answer the previous question.  We are not talking about Doyle being tossed around like a ragdoll (which does happen).  I am talking about blocking assignments.  Letting a DT come clean because someone botched an assignment is not a talent problem.  Unless of course you are going to make the argument he is just effin stupid.  You keep saying Wickline is a OL guru and pure developmental coach.  This OL cant even grasp the concept of assignments or the fundamentals of blocking.  You say its every player on the roster other than the freshmen.  I call BS.  If Wickline was such a f##king OL God then he should able to teach blocking concepts and fundamentals.

My concern is that Wickline is not "all there" mentally.

How focused would y'all be with a $500k lawsuit hanging over your heads? After just being demoted from Co-OC? I don't know how much his role has changed, but he could be actively working his network for another gig rather than focusing on the tasks at hand.

I have thought the same.  I have been through one lawsuit before and its a very draining process.  I was a huge fan of Wickline at OSU.  Hell some UT DL would says OSU had the most knowledgeable Lineman they had faced.  I am not talking talent.  I expect Wicks OL to be scrappy and knowledgeable at the very least.

I dont expect Wickline to still be here after this year.

If he is dumped, its his own darn fault.

You can't throw your upperclassmen under the bus like he does every week and expect to win.

You can't put "NO EXCUSES" on your workout clothes and throw excuse after excuse out every week. I don't care if it is true...Its an excuse and you said you weren't having any.

"We don't have leaders." We are young." Charlie and Bedford throw that crap out like hash at a homeless shelter every week.

The first time he was trying to motivate the guys...It didn't work. You know what they say about insanity....Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Our people in power screwed the pooch in hiring this guy. Bridgewater made him a success at Louisville, and our higher-ups fell hook, line, and sinker for it.

Every week we hear," We have to do a better job coaching.".... Hells bells...You are getting paid $5 million dollars. Shouldn't you start out doing a better job ? Are you admitting to doing a crappy job for the $5 million we are paying you ?? He is admitting to not doing his job. Isn't that grounds for dismissal and voids his contract ? ...SMH

If only it were that easy. Have you watched Doyle?

I can see it now in practice, "hey Doyle you missed that simple blocking concept because you were on the ground."

I mean seriously, what do you teach Doyle? He can't even stay on his feet. Wickline had no problem teaching basic blocking concepts and fundamentals at OSU because he at the minimum  had players that didn't like to abuse the ground.

If we are going to fire all the assistant coaches prematurely because the roster sucks, we might as well get this out of the way and fire Strong while we are at it.

Utis everyone saw the play im referring to.  It was replayed and dissected.  Doyle wasnt on the ground he literally blocked air cause he went to the left to assist the LG but never even got a hand on that guy and literally stood there expecting to block someone in his stance.  The DT right over him came clean because of that.  Maybe the RG was supposed to take his man, who knows.  That play wasnt about getting outplayed physically.  It was an assignment issue.

I wish I had a video clip but after searching I did find this:

74—Doyle

misses too many assignments—takes too much advantage with the blocking scheme rules. One false start numerous lost contacts and pass protection was very poor.

Like I said above, you either have it or you don't. Doyle doesn't have it. That wasn't just in reference to physical ability but also a mental understanding of the game.

I'm sure you can make a whole highlight reel of of Doyle missing assignments. I bet you won't find nearly as many missed assignments from true freshman Vahe and Williams, I wonder why? It's amazing how the freshman are way ahead of the upperclassmen already. Maybe it's because they actually are decent players?
