Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff picked up another key piece of the 2026 recruiting class Friday evening with the commitment of 2026 CB Samari Matthews.
The North Carolina native chose the Longhorns over South Carolina, Miami and Florida State. Matthews joins a defensive back class featuring 4-star CB Hayward Howard Jr. and 3-star safety Yaheim Riley. Texas also holds a commitment from versatile 4-star athlete Jermaine Bishop, who could play WR or CB for the Longhorns.
Matthews becomes the 18th commitment for the Longhorns in the 2026 class and their 12th commitment to hold a 4 or 5-star rating in the On3 Industry Rankings.
