Junior Day One for the Texas Longhorns is here and with it came a huge pickup from linebacker Cameron Hampton. Hampton, a 6-2, 210 lb outside linebacker from Carter High School in Dallas, who originally liked Texas A&M as his school of choice but then refocused his efforts on Oklahoma and Texas. He was the 2012  District 10-4A defensive Most Valuable Player and notched 85 tackles in his junior year at Carter.
When the updated recruiting rankings emerge, Hampton should easily be a 4-star prospect with all of the major recruiting services. Hampton is currently ranked at #31 on the 2014 Horn Sports 50 and becomes pledge #8 in the class for Mack Brown.
While last week Mack Brown laid down his “new rules” with respect to commitments in his signing day press conference, it appears his new paradigm has not made players think twice about deciding to verbally commit to the Longhorns. Hampton committed while at the Junior Day today in Austin.
