If the name KJ Sails, Jr. is unfamiliar, don’t worry. Until he tweeted that UT is recruiting him, most Texas fans had no idea who he is.
The 2016 3-star defensive back from Gibsonton, FL plays free safety for East Bay HS , but is listed by most recruiting services at corner. Sails has formal scholarship offers from more than 20 schools, and after watching the Tampa-area bluechip’s highlight reel, it is evident why Charlie Strong is dipping back into Florida for more high school talent .
Sails is the definition of a ball hawk and packs a punch on receivers that dare make a play on his side of the field. For his size (5’11â€, 170 pounds), Sails plays a very physical brand of football. His junior highlights are HERE.
I caught up with Sails right after East Bay finished practicing to gauge his interest in Texas:
Texas is recruiting you “hard.†What does that entail?
KJ: I meant that they should be offering me soon.
Which coach has been talking to you about getting an offer?
KJ: Coach Vaughn – I’m waiting on them to get back with me.
Any plans to visit Texas?
KJ: Most likely that’s my plan.
Are you looking to go to any game in particular?
KJ: Not yet.
Have you talked to any other guys in Florida getting recruited by Texas like Shemar Smith?
KJ: No sir.
Where would a Texas offer stand in your current offers?
KJ: They would be in my top 5.
What have the Texas coaches said other than talking about an offer?
KJ: I just started talking to him a couple days ago haven’t talked to him since then.
You’re a new name for Longhorn fans…
KJ: I do love the state of Texas. I’m trying to get coach Vaughns number.
If not by phone, how have you and Coach Vaughn been communicating?
KJ: He hmu in Twitter.
I understand you’re good friends with Armunz Mathews?
KJ: Yes sir.
Is it important to you two to go to the same school?
KJ: Lol doesn’t matter.
If that’s the case, what would the Longhorns need to do to get them to be your number 1 choice?
KJ: I have to visit.
