The Texas women’s basketball team looks to return to its winning ways against TCU.
The then-No.4 Texas women’s basketball team lost to then-No. 6 Baylor at home on Sunday, 67-80. The loss marked a first for the Longhorns this season. Senior center Imani Boyette scored 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, recording her ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Brooke McCarty scored a team-high 16 points. But, it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Bears. Baylor’s junior guard Alexis Jones scored a game-high 29 points.
The Longhorns fell to No. 6/6 after the loss and head to Fort Worth tonight to take on the Horned Frogs.
“TCU is a really good basketball team and a difficult challenge for us,†Texas head coach Karen Aston told texassports.com. “Their style of play is quite a bit different than ours, and they have become a team that gives us a little bit of trouble because of their style.â€
TCU owns an 11-6 overall record and a 3-3 record in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs recently lost to Kansas State 49-58. TCU opened Big 12 play 2-0 before losing the next three of its four games.
The Frogs are averaging 78.6 points per game with three players averaging 10-plus points. Senior guard Zahna Medley leads TCU with an average of 15.7 points. Sophomore guard AJ Alix and senior guard Veja Hamilton follow with 10.8 points and 10.2 points, respectively. The Frogs also own the top three-point shooters in Big 12 play: Alix, sophomore guard Toree Thompson and Medley.
Texas is averaging 74.5 points per game. Boyette continues to be the leader in points and rebounds, averaging 13.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. She has recorded five double-doubles in six Big 12 games with a total of nine on the season. Sophomore guard Brooke McCarty averages 11.2 points, and sophomore guard Ariel Atkins just behind her with an average of 8.9 points.
The Longhorns own the all-time record between the Horned Frogs, 36-2. But, Texas will look for its first win in Fort Worth since the 2013 season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT on Fox College Sports.
