After a sweep by Kansas State that delivered #3 Texas Volleyball’s first Conference loss this season, the Longhorns decisively defeated Cincinnati on the Forty Acres Saturday afternoon. Texas had their most effective offensive performance of the season hitting 0.476 which translated into 46 kills. Their offensive prowess was accompanied by 12 blocks and six aces. The Longhorns were led by outside hitter Madisen Skinner with 13 kills and middle blocker Asjia O’Neal who contributed not only nine kills but eight blocks – both hitting at 0.632 and 0.571, respectively.
Texas will host Iowa State Wednesday and while the Cyclones are unranked, they have upset ranked teams like then #18 Baylor and over the weekend split 1-1 with #14 Kansas. Moreover, in 2022, Iowa State was the Big 12 competitor that delivered Texas’ only loss of their championship season.
On the national front, both #3 Texas and #2 Wisconsin’s losses this week will contribute to a shuffling in the upcoming AVCA Poll rankings and as a result, NCAA Tournament seeds. Fans can catch Wednesday’s Texas-Iowa State game on LHN at 6PM. This marks the Longhorn’s first of the final three regular season matches before NCAA Tournament play begins.
