Four star John Tyler (TX) cornerback Kitan Crawford kick started Texas’ big recruiting weekend by announcing he is committing to the Longhorns.
Crawford has favored the Longhorns for sometime now, but recently narrowed his choices down to Oklahoma and Tennessee along with Texas. Crawford is currently ranked 191st nationally according to 247Sports’ composite rankings and is the 8th ranked athlete nationally.
Quick Takeaway
At 5’11, 200 pounds Crawford possesses solid size for the position, but also possesses elite level athletic traits as well. Crawford posted a 10.6 in the 100 meter dash during track season and according to Mike Roach of 247Sports, he posted a 40 yard dash time in the 4.4s recently. His long and recovery speed along with fluid hips are two things that stand out to me most on tape, and when you add that along with his ball production (12 PBUs and 2 Ints in 2018) you got you a rock solid template for a cover corner at the next level. Though he projects on the defensive side of the ball at the next level, I like the way Crawford finishes off runs as a ball carrier and it’s that kind of competitive and physical toughness that I think will carry over from a physical standpoint. Given that Crawford has split time on both offense and defense, he still has plenty of room for growth as a defensive back and given his physical traits thatmakes for a high ceiling as a prospect.
Final Thoughts
Credit to the Texas staff for hitting on this evaluation and getting in on Crawford early enough to establish their presence at the top of his list and eventually run away with this recruitment. Crawford is the latest addition to a long list of talented defensive back prospects Jason Washington and Craig Naivar have added to the stables in Austin. With Crawford now in the boat, all eyes will now be on Jahari Rogers for the other corner spot in this class and he is currently on campus taking his official with Crawford. Can Texas shut both of their priority corner targets down in the same weekend? We shall see.
