It’s been a busy three months for 2020 commit Princely Umanmielen since his commitment on August 12.
Despite an 0-2 start, the Manor Mustangs have won five in a row and sit atop District 11-5A D1 with big matchups against Hutto and Cedar Park on the horizon.
His play on defense has been a bright spot for a team that is giving up 24.9 points per game.
HornSports caught up with Umanmielen after a stellar performance against Leander Rouse on October 10, where the Texas commit recorded two forced fumbles and one recovery in the Mustangs’ 20-18 win.
Despite early struggles in 2019, the four-star defensive end is excited for the future of the Texas defense with his recruiting class.
“I feel like we’re doing good. On defense, I think everyone is playing good. Against Oklahoma State, there were a couple of special teams mistakes so we should have beat them by more, but all-in-all, I think the whole team is doing good.”
Umanmielen’s recruiting class is shaping up to be another top-five class for the Longhorns as they sit at #5 in the nation for 2020, according to 247Sports, with a little less than two months left before the early signing period.
“It’s crazy how many good guys we got after I committed and even before I committed. I feel like we should get a couple of more, I’m really excited about it.”
Of the prospects that have committed since Umanmielen in August, Troy Omeire’s flip from Texas A&M to the Longhorns was the four-star’s favorite of the entire recruiting cycle as his friendship with Omeire will now extend four years.
“I’m most excited to play with Troy. That’s my dude right there. I was real happy [about the flip]. When he texted me, I was pumped.”
Princely will join Van Fillinger and Vernon Broughton as defensive linemen coming to Austin in 2020 as they look to build the next great Texas D-Line.
