The Longhorns led most of the first half until Stanford’s Anthony Brown hit his 3rd three-pointer of the game with 2:52 remaining to give the Cardinal a 26-24 lead. Texas would add five points before Brown would hit his 4th three of the night to tie the score at 29-29. Kendal Yancy would hit a jumper for Texas to take the lead, but Stanford’s Rosco Allen made a layup to even the score, sending the two teams to the locker room tied at 31 at the half.

In the second half the lead was exchanged 12 times before Jonathan Holmes made a jump shot with 0:26 seconds left to tie the game at 64. Stanford’s Robert Cartwright would miss a jumper with 0:01 left in the second half and the game would be sent to OT.

The Longhorns held the lead in overtime until the 1:08 mark, when Anthony Brown hit a pair of free throws to give Stanford a 72-71 lead. Chasson Randle added two points and the lead, but the Longhorns had an opportunity to tie the game. Javan Felix and Demarcus Holland both missed three-point attempts in the final Texas possession, propelling Stanford to a 74-71 win.

Anthony Brown and Chasson Randle combined for a total of 47 points for the Cardinal, with Brown going a perfect 4-4 from three-point range. Javan Felix led the Longhorns in scoring with 19 points, while Jonathan Holmes and Kendal Yancy each contributed 14 points in the loss.

Texas turned the ball over 11 times to Stanford’s 6. The Longhorns out-rebounded the Cardinal 36-32.

Cameron Ridley required three stitches after a collision with Demarcus Holland in the 2nd half while Jonathan Holmes lost a tooth at some point in the game. Lightly put, it was a rough game for the Longhorns.

The win by the Cardinal snapped a 15-game home winning streak by the Longhorns, including 7-straight this season. The loss marks the 2nd against a Power Five conference opponent in the month of December (the Longhorns lost to top-ranked Kentucky at Rupp Arena on December 5).

For Stanford head coach Johnny Dawkins, the win over Rick Barnes’ Longhorns on Tuesday notched his 4th win over a Top 10 opponent since taking the reins in Palo Alto in 2008.

The Longhorns next face the Rice Owls on December 29th in Austin before beginning Big 12 play against Texas Tech on January 3rd.
