Jalen Logan-Redding is a three-star weak side defensive end in the class of 2020. Hailing from Columbia, Missouri, he tells HornSports why making the move to Texas would be so appealing. Logan-Redding shares everything he loves about the Texas Longhorns and what makes the 40 Acres stand out from the rest of the schools after his signature.
Jalen Logan-Redding is a rising edge rusher out of Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri. He holds 13 offers from schools including Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State.
The 6-foot-4, 235 recruit is currently ranked as the No. 24 weak side defensive end in the nation and the No. 11 player in Missouri per 247Sports.
Last season, Logan-Redding recorded 62 total tackles, eight sacks, four fumble recoveries, and 21 tackles for loss. It’s not hard to see why Rock Bridge went 9-3 last year with the force it had on defense.
The Texas Longhorns offered Logan-Redding back in March, after the recruit made an unofficial visit to campus. Though his Crystal Ball Prediction heavily favors the Missouri Tigers, Texas made a strong impression on the 2020 recruit.
“I would definitely say Texas’ facilities alone stand out compared to others. They are very modern and tech-savvy. The fact that they are renovating the facilities is a plus as well. Texas has all the necessities that a player would need to be successful on and off the field.”
Logan-Redding says Texas defensive line coach Oscar Giles, also made a strong impression on him during his visit.
“Watching the spring practice this past March, I loved the coaching technique that coach Oscar Giles presented and how motivated the other coaches and players were. Practice was no joke, they were taking care of business out there.”
The football culture down in Texas also had an impact on Logan-Redding, he shared how he can see why Austin is the place to be.
“The fans and alumni are just crazy about UT football down in Austin. Austin is a great city and is ranked high in our nation for places to live for a reason.”
Logan-Redding has offers from some impressive Power Five programs, he shared two things he is looking for in the school that will nab his signature.
“Of course academics come first, but as I visit more schools, I realize that my top priority is finding a school that I feel needed at, and not just tolerated. I have to have a bond with the coaches, teammates, and the school.”
The Texas staff is already making Logan-Redding feel needed. His bond with coach Giles is getting stronger by the day.
“Coach Giles is the coach I stay in contact with the most. He also came to Columbia to visit me at my school this past winter. He visited with my coaches, friends, and teachers. I met coach Tom Herman on my March visit, along with others on the coaching staff. I am excited and look forward to building a relationship with him and the rest of the staff.”
Logan-Redding will be very careful in choosing the school he will spend three to four years at, though he does not have a top list yet, he is working on narrowing his choices down.
“I am moving forward with piecing together which schools are at the top of my list. For sure Texas is a top school that I am considering.”
The Longhorns are in a good position with the 2020 defensive end. Logan-Redding says he plans to be back on Texas’ campus in the summer.
Currently, the Longhorns have no defensive commits for the class of 2020. Last cycle, Texas signed three defensive ends in four-stars Jacoby Jones and Myron Warren, and three-star Peter Mpagi.
