The transfer portal continued to yield dividends to the Texas Longhorns at positions of need, this time with the commitment of former Florida State linebacker Justin Cryer.
Cryer, a 6-1, 225 lb. native of Brookshire, Texas, originally signed with Northwestern out of high school but transferred to Florida State without playing a snap for the Wildcats. He enjoyed three seasons in Tallahassee, playing in 34 games and totaling 86 tackles (39 solo) with one sack and one interception.
He was a three-star prospect out of high school, and is the brother of former University of Houston and current Golden State Warriors basketball player LJ Cryer, who seemingly approved of his brother’s decision to land at Texas.
Cryer made the decision to commit while visiting the 40 Acres on Friday.
He represents the 10th portal addition for the Longhorns, following the commitments of former Arkansas DT Ian Geffrard, former New Mexico longsnapper Trey DuBuc, former Memphis kicker Gianni Spetic, former Florida State punter Mac Chiumento, former Rutgers cornerback Bo Mascoe, former Michigan State tight end Michael Masunas, former Arizona State running back Raleek Brown, former LSU defensive tackle Zion Williams and former Oregon State offensive lineman Dylan Sikorski.
