Saturday’s win over Oklahoma State was a good start towards Tom Herman’s team competing for a Big 12 Championship this season, but the win didn’t come without a cost. Herman announced on Monday’s Big 12 Teleconference that the Texas defense would be devoid of several players who sustained injuries in Saturday’s 36-30 victory over the Cowboys.
Defensive backs Caden Sterns and Jalen Green will each miss four weeks, and Josh Thompson is out for an unknown period of time after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his foot. Sterns broke up a pass in the 4th quarter of last weekend’s game and landed awkwardly, injuring a ligament in his knee (tibia). Green had an MRI on his dislocated shoulder, post-Oklahoma State, and will need time to heal.
Linebacker Marcus Tillman is out for the season with a third-degree MCL sprain.
The Longhorns expect to have nickleback B.J. Foster and safety DeMarvion Overshown back in the lineup when the Longhorns travel to Morgantown to face West Virginia on October 5th. Foster suffered a hamstring injury in the LSU game and Overshown injured his back in practice the week of the Rice game. Both missed the last two games for the Longhorns.
