Two blueblood football programs will meet on the field in Ann Arbor when No. 10 Michigan (1-0, 0-0 Big 10) hosts No. 3 Texas (1-0, 0-0 SEC). FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff” game (11:00 am CST) will mark just the second meeting between these two programs and the first at Michigan Stadium.
The Wolverines are the winningest program in all of college football (1,005 wins) and won their ninth national championship last season with a 34-13 win over the Washington Huskies. The Longhorns sit in 4th place in all-time wins (949) tied with Notre Dame. Texas claimed a Big 12 title in their final season in the conference and ended their season with a loss to Washington in the Sugar Bowl, their first appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Texas looked crisp in their 52-0 shutout win over Colorado State last week in Austin. Michigan lost veteran quarterback and Top-10 pick J.J. McCarthy to this year’s NFL Draft and faced challenges on offense in their season opener against Fresno State. The Wolverines went on to win 30-10 and avoided an upset despite leading just 16-10 halfway through the 4th quarter.
The stakes are high for both teams who hope to earn a signature non-conference win in this battle between two Top-10 programs.
