The Texas Longhorns (6-2, 4-1) look to bounce back this week at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers (6-1, 4-1) after a narrow 38-35 loss in Stillwater last weekend. Texas had its six-game win streak snapped as a result, but Tom Herman’s team is a perfect 4-0 this season when playing at home. The Longhorns defeated the Mountaineers last season in Morgantown to notch Herman’s first win over a ranked opponent as head coach at Texas. West Virginia was without injured starting quarterback Will Grier for most of the game, allowing the Texas defense to hold the Mountaineers to just 14 points. This season, West Virginia boasts one of the best offenses in the country. Grier, a Heisman Trophy candidate, is healthy and has thrown for 2,272 yards and 25 touchdowns through seven games this season.
The Longhorns rushed for 233 yards last season in Morgantown and Sam Ehlinger threw for two touchdowns in the upset win on the road.
Both teams are bowl eligible, but the winner of today’s game remains in the driver’s seat for a berth in the Big 2 Championship Game on December 1st.
