I'm Hearing

It will be the BMDs call. That's the way it's always been. Usually, one or more of the BMDs are current and/or past regents.

Powers and Patterson's signing off (and they will) on the deal is a formality.

I am happy to have found this website. After many years of messing around a few of the other older ones... Finally a place for information and primarily classy exchanges.
Powers has done some good things as President, but in many ways reminds me of Mack in that he so often makes sure to say all of the right things, while not always doing them in the background. I think they are both good men who need to move along with our gratitude. And Powers needs to stay until Perry is gone but not a moment longer. Mack needs to finally practice what he preaches and prove that our program and University are bigger than any individual.

Other than envy, what is it that Powers and Brown would have against Saban?
First, welcome. I agree what you said. However, Brown does not want Saban. I think it is an ego thing. Saban has more national championships and both Brown and Dodds has been telling Powers about the unethical things Saban does.

Good gosh guys! First of all Texas is a World Class EDUCTIONAL institution. First and foremost. We would never fire the President over an athletic program unless that program had ethical or legal problems. Not winning ENOUGH is a silly thing to hold the President accountable for. The head coach is a different thing. He was held accountable earlier in the season and now is th time to pay the piper. It's sad, he's a good man, the game has past him by.

Patience, patience. All the timing is to accommodate many people. Th current coach, the coach sitting on an offer he won't refuse, the current President and all his problems caused by a Governor that doesn't want to see this happen, a legal department that has to answer to the BOR as well as not step over the line with the NCAA guidelines etc etc.

Patience, patience. You want to be a Vulture? Have some patience something will die soon.

I got blasted on OB last year, when i said Mack would do everything in his power to not have NS or any "top" coach follow him...Mack is a disgruntled ego walking on 2 legs...

Yup. EM on OB, too
Not that it matters but, who posted it first?

I was told this news last Thursday on the way to the Hornsports Happy Hour. The OSU loss and the opportunity for Texas to win the B12 would have curtailed this all from happeing.

his first post says he will tender his resignation tuesday and no later than thursday
I am hearing the same as LL (as well as El Mahico on OB) that Tuesday is the day. In addition, the person I talk to is not too concerned about Powers blocking Saban in the end. The biggest obstacle is getting rid of Mack, and it is going to happen early in the week. Once Mack is out of the equation, the people driving this ship will discuss "reality" with Bill and "educate" him on the realities of the situation and the future of D1 college athletics. They feel, I am told, that Powers will ultimately come to his senses now that Mack and DELoss will not be there to poison his thoughts.

how confident are the people changing powers' mind?

They are confident. However, you have to understand that this is their opinion. There are no guarantees, and I am not guaranteeing that they can convince Powers.

This is what I've always been led to believe ... And it falls in line with the way things are supposed to work since the Johnny Mac ordeal. You and I seem to have the same stance from posts I've read ...

EM started the thread and LL posted it in that thread.

I am not convinced that Saban will come to UT but what hire could be bigger for the value of the University of Texas brand and maximizing future revenues and donations than Nick Saban????? Saban is an absolute no brainer from a business, institutional and athletic perspective. If Powers is a professional and Saban is seriously interested in UT, it is his job to at least meet with Saban to hear his side of any of Mack's ethical complaints. So much for Saban being Mack's good friend.

I have a serious issue with presidents being involved in athletics.

You want to know why the NCAA is a cheating mess? You want to know why the NCAA is a laughingstock of an organization?

It is because it is run by the presidents who have not one clue about athletics.

Look, that's not a knock on Bill Powers; that's a knock on the way the system is structured.

I'm beating a dead horse, but once again, I continue to argue that there needs to be a complete restructuring of the Organizational Flow Chart of not only the NCAA but the University ADs themselves.

There should be a coach, who answers to an AD, who answers to a GM, who answers to the BOR. The GM would have various specialized members of senior management.

This isn't rocket science. With UT-Austin representing the pinnacle of big business college athletics, it is time they step up and LEAD the way.
This times a whole bunch. Wish it would happen.

The power brokers need to tell Powers to stand down or we need to fire his ass too
I woud be SHOCKED if Powers gave the alumni the finger and did anything to extend Mack's stay. The alumni have supported Powers extremely well. I would think he would want to think twice about throwing that good will away to demonstrate his loyalty to Mack.

I'm curious if the fact that we laid an egg on the field with the Big 12 title on the line is pushing him out even quicker.

Good stuff

I undestand time is of the essence with saban. How does a MB announcement on tuesday affect his timeline?

Whats up Pokey!!

I dont think anyone is saying fire Powers bc of wins or losses. But if Powers is backing a Friend over doing what is Best for the University of Texas then Powers is not doing his job well. That would be a fact.

He is a good man, but if he doesnt realize his time has come and gone you can not expect us to be ok with him bc he is a good man. IF he does not go on his own, then he is viewing himself as bigger than the University and that means he isnt as good a person.

You dont feel Mack doenst wand Saban to follow him bc he knows that Saban will rebuild this team in 1 year what Mack could not do in 4. Mack is a good person and was a good coach but his EGO is an issue.
