I'm Hearing

Since the regent that was pushing the campaign to oust Powers in now under investigation pending impeachment, I don't think that is going to happen. That said, Powers will agree to the Regents and BMDs wishes concerning the football program. My opinion anyway.
The Governor of Texas is still Rick Perry. Wallace Hall goes he replaces him with another flunkie. Nothing has changed as it pertains to Powers position at the end of the plank.

If I were grading papers, I'd say MBHorns got an F and Slim got an A+
in defense of MBHorns and others (including myself), I think we need to let Powers focus on academics. He is a great president and stood the surge of Perry and his cronies back in the day. He also needs to make the decision without involving his friendship with Dodds and Mack. That is what we say, if he let his friendship interfere with decisions, he needs to rethink his position.

Powers needs to understand he need to focus on academics and not athletics.

Good gosh guys! First of all Texas is a World Class EDUCTIONAL institution. First and foremost. We would never fire the President over an athletic program unless that program had ethical or legal problems. Not winning ENOUGH is a silly thing to hold the President accountable for. The head coach is a different thing. He was held accountable earlier in the season and now is th time to pay the piper. It's sad, he's a good man, the game has past him by.
Patience, patience. All the timing is to accommodate many people. Th current coach, the coach sitting on an offer he won't refuse, the current President and all his problems caused by a Governor that doesn't want to see this happen, a legal department that has to answer to the BOR as well as not step over the line with the NCAA guidelines etc etc.

Patience, patience. You want to be a Vulture? Have some patience something will die soon.

Except we do have ethical and legal problems. Some of those are a direct result of Powers himself.

Folks, at this point, I dont think we should care if the next coach is Nick Saban. This university, program, and fan base's only concern right now needs to be the removal of Mack Brown as soon as possible. Once the cancer is removed, we can discuss recovery options.

As far as Powers, dont fret about it too much. Powers is still on the brink of being removed by the BOR anyway. He can whine and cry, but at the end of the day he's going to preserve himself before he preserves anyone else.
Kind of how I feel as well.

Been gone from UT since 1994 and out of Texas since 2001 so not real up to date on Powers. What does he do and bring as President that makes him so special.

Genuinely curious by the way.

If Hall is impeached, the regents will fall inline behind the Lege, not Rick Perry.

Randolph? Anyone? (I'd like the "experts" on Powers to answer this)

Let me add that the disdain that Powers has for the Saban hire is not just about his friendship with Mack Brown.
Powers hates the fact that Wallace Hall went around his back in speaking to Sabans agent Jimmy Sexton last Dec.

Powers felt that all parties were unethical by meeting.
Darrell, I'm still confused as to how Powers can push back against the BMDs wanting Saban since they made the deal with Powers to get rid of Mack in exchange for helping Powers with the BOR coming after his job. I just find it amazing that Powers thinks he can dictate anything to anyone with regards to letting Mack go or hiring Saban.

What an absolute pleasure to be on this board where there is good banter and great information. Awesome posts!

A while back it was reported that Greg Abbott was the one that save Powers. Powers in return would probably do what Abbott wanted to in terms of football coach. Also, it was reported that Abbott was in favor of Saban.

What happened to Abbott? Where is he now?

The Powerbrokers have requested the resignation preferably by Tuesday and no later than Thursday.
The only reason Brown and Powers would delay the resignation is to hurt our chances with Saban. Neither is on board with the hire.

The Powerbrokers even sweetened the severance package for Brown so, he would step away nicely.

I got blasted on OB last year, when i said Mack would do everything in his power to not have NS or any "top" coach follow him...Mack is a disgruntled ego walking on 2 legs...
At this point I think getting blasted on OB means you're saying something that is spot on. Take it as a badge of honor!

He is running for Governor and is not going to do anything to make waves while trying to win. This is not the time to piss off anyone.
