I'm Hearing

Folks, at this point, I dont think we should care if the next coach is Nick Saban. This university, program, and fan base's only concern right now needs to be the removal of Mack Brown as soon as possible. Once the cancer is removed, we can discuss recovery options.

As far as Powers, dont fret about it too much. Powers is still on the brink of being removed by the BOR anyway. He can whine and cry, but at the end of the day he's going to preserve himself before he preserves anyone else.

I woud be SHOCKED if Powers gave the alumni the finger and did anything to extend Mack's stay. The alumni have supported Powers extremely well. I would think he would want to think twice about throwing that good will away to demonstrate his loyalty to Mack.
I think you have a valid point. The Exes really stepped up on the campaign to keep Powers and the overall sentiment among the Exes I know is favorable toward getting NS (although many find it difficult to believe we could), so it would be strange for Powers to stand in the way of that because of friendship with MB. Even if Powers did stand in the way I think it's ludicrous to throw out the idea that he needs to be fired - he might, however, find any future response to ward of Perry's nonsense more tempered.

I'm not saying fire Powers if he tries to save Mack's job. That would be a level of insanity rarely seen on the 40 acres. Rather, in life it is best to pick your battles and I can't see Mack's continued employment worth getting involved with for Powers. Especially if certain members of the BOR are pushing for a change.

Mack has pissed away his goodwill with the alumni by bad decisions and unwarranted loyalty to individuals (GDGD, Diaz) to the detriment of the program. Yesterday Mack was coaching as if his job was on the line and we all know what he delivered. It's time for a change.

Since the regent that was pushing the campaign to oust Powers in now under investigation pending impeachment, I don't think that is going to happen.

That said, Powers will agree to the Regents and BMDs wishes concerning the football program. My opinion anyway.

It's not about the football program. It's about The University of Texas at Austin. As badly as I want a winning football program at Texas, the school is bigger than athletics and it's not even close.
I am so sick of this mentality. We can have the best football program and the best public university. If Powers really does block this hire, then I lose all respect for him.

I got what you were saying. My wording may have been a little unclear. I was agreeing with you.

Powers won't block anything. The people who are pushing for saban helped save his ass. He can't just brush a bob Rowling type off

Let me add that the disdain that Powers has for the Saban hire is not just about his friendship with Mack Brown.

Powers hates the fact that Wallace Hall went around his back in speaking to Sabans agent Jimmy Sexton last Dec.

Powers felt that all parties were unethical by meeting.

Uneithical and if I'm not misguided, I believe it came close to conflicting with state law. I believe guidelines are pretty clear that the university president, not the BOR handles employment of university employees. The BOR may have to approve certain contracts, but its hands off when it comes to university employment decisions. Hall was clearly out of line.

Hey guys, new to the board and loving it so far. Keep up the good work McPhaul, et at. I agree with Randolph Duke that Mack's demeanor on the field was as though he was coaching to save his job. He was more animated on the sideline, especially with Case, much moreso than previously where it appeared he was letting his coaches do the coaching (is it a coincidence that Texas won 6 in a row during that period?). Can someone explain the deal with Powers? Does he have final say so on who the head football coach is? Or who does have final say so? Thanks.

I think we all feel Powers has been unethical to us by allowing us to pay for the shit that this football team is. I want my $ back.

Let's not talk about firing Powers. That is silly and it is not going to happen.
Powers is a lame duck at this time. That is why I would not support him on his stance against Saban. Keep in mind, Dodds and Brown are the two that convinced Powers that Saban was unethical. Powers is listening to of his his closest friends.
What's crazy about this is Powers very likely will have retired before the next coach gets a chance to play his first game. He should remove himself from this decision.

I suspect Mack helped shape that opinion as well.....at the very least he reinforced it vigorously.

yet another reason why rick perry sucks

I totally agree with this opinion. I feel getting Mack Brown to step aside is the most critical step. Once this is done then we can all worry about his replacement. I want Saban as much as anyone else, but if it doesn't happen it's not the end of the world. There are plenty of other qualified candidates out there to replace Mack Brown.

The 3 people who I want having nothing to do with selecting our next coach are Mack Brown, DeLoss Dodds, and Bill Powers. None of them have the football smarts to select the right guy. Better throw Sally in there too since she wears the pants in her family.
