The Texas Longhorns will open the regular season under new head coach Chris Beard on Tuesday, November 9th against Houston Baptist University. On Monday evening Beard and the Longhorns had some fun, hosting former player and current Texas Lutheran coach Mike Wacker’s team at the Erwin Center in an exhibition match.
The Longhorns won as expected, 96-33, in a game that was tabbed as a “Unite the Family” action item to pay tribute to Wacker who played for the ‘Horns in the 1980’s.
As for the game, four Texas players reached double-digits in scoring. UMASS transfer Tre Mitchell scored a game-high 16 points while forward Timmy Allen, former Utah Ute, contributed 15 points in the victory over the Bulldogs. Jaylon Tyson added 13 points while Courtney Ramey had 12 on the night.
The Longhorns shot 57 percent from the floor compared to the Bulldogs’ 25 percent. Texas registered 21 assists and four turnovers compared to one assist and 25 turnovers by the Bulldogs.
