Within two weeks the Longhorn faithful will have crystal clarity on two evasive topics: Who the starting quarterback will be, and which media providers will offer the Longhorn Network to subscribers. The answers to these questions cannot come soon enough. If I were a betting man, which I am, I would guess that Mack Brown has a farily good idea which quarterback will take the field first against Rice on September 3rd. The latest buzz seems to revolve around the performance of true freshman David Ash, who has shaken up the quarterback controversy even more. What started out as a battle between Garret Gilbert and Colt McCoy has afforded Connor Wood and David Ash the opportunity to compete for the starting job. Most fans assumed the job would be McCoy’s if Gilbert lost it, but that does not seem to be the case.
You can pretty much read whatever you want in the papers and on the internet these days – the ups and downs of the Texas quarterback performances in practice and scrimmages, but one thing is certain – whoever starts for the Longhorns against Rice on September 3rd will have earned it. Not by default, not through a “gimmee,” but through hard work, blood, sweat and tears. Whether it is the incumbent Gilbert or new starting blood, the season of the Texas qb will start in T-minus 13 days and counting. Game one will be televised on the Longhorn Network which should have carriers in place with a week or so. For a photo tour of the Longhorn Network Studio, click here.
As far as my prediction on the season, I think the Longhorns are primed for an 8-4 record with a return to the postseason.
