Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is primed and ready to lead the Longhorns into the SEC. At SEC Media Day in Dallas, he spoke about his preparation for the season, highlighting how his mind, body, and soul are all playing a part in getting him and his team to the next level. The next level for Ewers and Texas is their first season in the SEC, with aspirations of playing for a national title.
Ewers is coming off a phenomenal season in 2023, leading Texas to a 12-2 record and an 8-1 mark in the Big 12, winning the Big 12 title, culminating in an appearance in the College Football Playoff. He passed for 3,749 yards and 22 touchdowns, the sixth-most yards in a single season in Texas history. Ewers had six 300-yard games in 2023, earning 2nd Team All-Big 12 honors and being named the Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Player.
Ewers possesses all the tools of an elite passer. He has a big arm, excellent touch on deep balls, an athletic posture in the pocket, and the ability to make accurate throws on the run. He excels at completing passes in the short to intermediate zones, he can fit the ball into small passing windows, and Ewers is capable of making plays with his feet when flushed out of the pocket. These are key attributes make him an attractive NFL prospect.
During the SEC Media Day interviews, Ewers discussed focusing on his nutrition and reshaping his body in the offseason. He also shared how his faith has helped him through injuries and tough times. Ewers emphasized his commitment to making the right plays within the Texas offense, and being a team leader. Coach Steve Sarkisian praised Ewers as a “cool customer.” Sarkisian expressed that Ewers is the leader of the Texas team and the unquestioned quarterback for the Longhorns.
With Ewers fully focused and committed in mind, body and soul, Texas has its best chance at competing for a national championship. The Longhorns have their most talented and deep roster in the Steve Sarkisian era, setting high expectations for the upcoming season.
