Potentially huge news broken by Chip Brown of Orangebloods, who reports Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds will step down at years end, moving into a secondary role.
The payoff for Dodds to go is relatively inexpensive, as he will simply collect what is already owed to him until his contract expires in late summer 2015. Brown also reports the recommended replacement is Bob Bowlsby, the current Big 12 Conference commissioner. Sources indicated to Brown compensation for Bowlsby could be a bit high for the Regents at the University, but I would assume the “big cigars” will do what it takes to get him.
In a radio interview with ESPN Austin, Brown indicated the attraction to Bowlsby stems from his completion of full endowment of the athletic department at Stanford, something Texas wants accomplished here.
Obviously this casts serious doubt on Mack Brown having the option to remain at Texas after this year, with his buyout not necessarily being cost prohibitive. The University of Texas has already denied Brown’s report, but the rumors of Bowlsby and Dodds have been ongoing since at least Sunday night, when the alleged meeting between Brown and administration is said to have occurred.
Stay tuned folks, the seats under Brown, Barnes, and Garrido may have just went thermonuclear.
