The Foundation for Teamwork announced its semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award, presented to the nation’s best offensive line, and the Texas Longhorns’ offensive line was among the 12 units named. Co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Kyle Flood has his guys playing at a high level, helping pave the way for the tremendous success of the Texas offense through 10 games this season.
The Longhorns are ranked 14th nationally in total offense, averaging a whopping 459.3 yards per game. Texas rings in at 33rd in the country in rushing yards (183.5), 27th in passing yards (275.8) and 25th in scoring (33.8 points per game).
Flood’s work and preparation with his guys hasn’t gone unnoticed, as stated by the slection committee.
“Texas looks the part and they’ve improved noticeably from 2022 to 2023 to gain the attention of the selection committee. The unit stands out with pass protection, and they are consistent in playing with inside hands and consistent strain through the whistle,” the committee noted. “Steve Sarkisian’s offense requires an offensive line that is balanced in their run/pass technique and duties and the Longhorns are just that. Flood’s unit at Bama won it in 2002, and you can really see his handiwork with this group.”
The criteria in which the offensive lines are judged include six components: toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique and finishing.
FInalists for the award will be announced on December 5th with the winner being recognized before the end of the year.
Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns (9-1, 6-1) will finish the regular season with games against Iowa State (Ames, IA) and Texas Tech (Austin).
