In Fort Worth last night #6 Texas Volleyball battled back for a victory over Texas Christian University in a squeaker that went five sets, the closest they have come to losing a Big 12 Conference game this season.
Texas’ offensive efficiency was 0.268 for the match but in the first set they had an astonishing low 0.025, slowly rallying set by set to produce and climb back. Conversely, the Horned Frogs finished the match with 0.329 hitting percentage with three hitters collectively earning 59 kills. While Longhorn Madisen Skinner (OH) continued to lead her team in kills (19 total), she was not accompanied by the needed chorus of offensive leaders which has propelled the Longhorns to decisive victories since Conference play.
Freshman setter, Ella Swindle, had a solid night for her team demonstrating once again the versatility she provides to the reigning champions’ program. In addition to her 45 assists and 11 digs which marked her fourth double-double of the season, she contributed five kills and three blocks. Middle blocker Asjia O’Neal notched four blocks and 10 kills, also essential to Texas’ comeback victory.
The Longhorns return home with a week to prepare before hosting #21 Baylor on the Forty Acres for back-to-back matches on Thursday and Friday at Gregory Gym.
