Texas Longhorns safety Andrew Mukuba has officially declared for the NFL Draft, capping off an impressive college football career that spanned two powerhouse programs. Mukuba began his collegiate journey at Clemson, where he immediately made his presence felt. Over three seasons, he amassed 142 tackles, one sack, and one interception while establishing himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the country. His breakout freshman campaign in 2021 earned him ACC Rookie of the Year honors, a testament to his instinctive play, athleticism, and ability to thrive in high-pressure situations. Seeking a new challenge, Mukuba transferred to Texas for the 2024 season and proved to be a game-changer in the Longhorns’ secondary. He recorded 69 tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble during his lone season in Austin. Among his many highlights, Mukuba delivered a pivotal moment in the College Football Playoff first round, sealing the Longhorns’ victory over Arizona State with a clutch interception.

Mukuba’s skill set makes him one of the most intriguing safety prospects in the draft. He is a natural playmaker with exceptional range, allowing him to cover ground quickly and excel in both deep coverage and sideline-to-sideline pursuits. His speed and fluidity make him a reliable asset in pass defense, and his five interceptions this season showcased his sharp instincts and ability to track the ball in the air. Mukuba is not just a ballhawk; he is also a physical and reliable tackler in the open field, consistently shutting down big plays and providing crucial run support. His versatility is another key strength—he can match up effectively against tight ends and slot receivers, giving defensive coordinators flexibility in their schemes. Whether in man coverage or zone, Mukuba’s combination of intelligence, athleticism, and physicality allows him to adapt and thrive.

With his proven production, high football IQ, and ability to impact multiple phases of the game, Mukuba is poised to make a smooth transition to the NFL. Teams will undoubtedly value his ability to create turnovers, support the run, and lock down matchups in coverage. His all-around game and knack for delivering in critical moments should make him a sought-after prospect in the early rounds of the draft. Mukuba’s ceiling is as high as his range on the field, and he has the potential to become a cornerstone player for a team in need of a dynamic presence in its secondary.
