Rodney Terry’s 18th ranked Longhorns opened the 2023-2024 hoops season with an 88-56 win over University of Incarnate Word at the Moody Center on Monday night. Graduate transfer guard Ithiel Horton led the ‘Horns in scoring with 17 points. Heralded guard Max Abmas also reached double-digits in scoring, contributing 12 points. Forward Kadin Shedrick also notched 12 points, and Tyrese Hunter scored 11. Junior forward Ze’Rik Onyema led the team in rebounds (7) while adding 11 points in the victory.
Texas shot 50.8% from the floor compared to Incarnate Word’s 29.7%.
The win was the Longhorns’ 22nd home opening victory and improved Texas’ record to 3-0 versus Incarnate Word.
