After a much needed week off, welcome back to the Outsiders Edge, where we chop it up about anything and everything. Shout out to all the new Facebook followers. I’ll be working off that platform a bit more in the coming weeks, signing the posts off with (Whisenant) since there’s already another “JW” in the area.
New Longhorn Uniforms: I’ve got no problem with them at all, and I think a bit of freshening up was just what the doctor ordered. Whether the purists like it or not, eventually the day will come where the Longhorns go out in all black unis with burnt orange (under a new coach of course). Even on something so trivial to the older crowd, Texas has to keep up with the times. Kids want cool uniforms, and this was a great compromise between old and new. Hey, at least they didn’t go Oregon and roll out a uniform looking like the Aflac Duck got hit by a car.
The New Offensive Line: I’m very excited about where this years group can potentially go. This line is deep, nasty, and has the size we’ve lacked for several years. Still need Desmond Harrison to get up to speed, but he gives so much plug and play ability to the rest of this group we could be fresh and large in the late stages of games where we need to close it out. Another guy I’m high on is Rammi Hammad. Massive size, clear dedication to get better, leadership abilities, and a mean streak which I hope one day rivals what Justin Blalock had in his time here.
The Dallas Cowboys: I’m sure my dude Beevomav will have a dissenting opinion, but this team just feels like a train wreck already. Camp has been open for a couple days, and already we’ve got: Jay Ratliff hurt, probably with an injury that will linger all season, the “kiss of death” vote of confidence from Jerrah for Jason Garrett, and the meltdown over Tony Romo’s weight. This needed to be an injury free season for the Boys to have a great shot at making noise in a tough NFC East, and signs already point to “bleh”.
Mack at Media Days: Didn’t really hear anything unexpected out of him. Most fans are not going to tune in to him again until he comes out of Dallas undefeated. Past that, what else can you really say?
Tyrone Swoopes:Â A 500lb squat is impressive to me out of anyone, much less a quarterback. The kid has all the tools to make one hell of an impact this year in whatever time he sees. Â How long until the fans scream his name? One interception? Two? The most popular guy on the team is almost always the backup QB, and this year will be no exception.
The Royal Baby: Who cares what they named it? Didn’t we fight a couple of wars to not be subjects…..well…..subjects of the English monarchy anyway.
The Closer: What are you most excited about headed into fall camp? Biggest concerns? Expectations for the season?
Till next time, Hook Em!
