Wide receiver Jordan Whittington spent five seasons with the Texas Longhorns, the majority of which were mired with injuries. The Cuero native and five-star recruit finally regained his health in 2022 and helped the Longhorns to an 8-5 season in Steve Sarksian’s second year as head coach. It was his most prolific year in burnt orange, catching 50 passes for 652 yards and a touchdown. This year, his leadership and on-field efforts produced 42 receptions for 505 yards and one touchdown and helped the Longhorns reach their first College Football Playoff in program history. His athletic catch on the Longhorns’ final drive in the Sugar Bowl gave Texas a chance to win after trailing the Huskies 37-28 with just 2:40 remaining in the game.
Whittington posted a heartfelt goodbye and thank you video on his social media accounts on Thursday.
“Dear Texas, thank you. Every moment I’ve had here, good or bad, has been a piece of such an important chapter of my life. And it’s an honor to say I didn’t just play at Texas, I played for Texas. Every minute, every day, every year, I gave it my all. And now, I feel complete. So after 17 long years, or however long it’s been since I have been here, it’s time to go. But no matter when, no matter where, no matter what…. I’ll forever be a Texas Longhorn. Hook’Em.”
Whittington’s next stop will likely be in the NFL, but before that he will have an opportunity to showcase his talents in the Senior Bowl on February 3.
