Texas running back D’Onta Foreman has two runs this season for more than 80 yards, making him the only player from a Power 5 conference with that accomplishment. Foreman is proving why he deserved as much recruiting attention as his twin brother Armanti received.
Foreman ran for a 93-yard touchdown Saturday against Kansas. He also had an 81-yard rush against Oklahoma earlier this season. Foreman now owns two of the top 15 long carries in UT history. The Kansas rush ranks third while the Oklahoma one ranks 12th. Foreman is also the only player with two rushes in the top 15 for UT.
The Foreman twins are from Texas City and attended Texas City High School. D’Onta is a 6-foot, 241-pound running back. Armanti is a 6-foot, 189-pound wide receiver. D’Onta left Texas City with 4,382 rushing yards and 61 touchdowns. Armanti accumulated 3,067 passing yards and caught 32 touchdowns while at Texas City. 247Sports ranked Armanti the No. 15 player in Texas while D’Onta received No. 143.
Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma offered Armanti scholarships early in the twins’ recruiting process but nothing for D’Onta. In the spring of 2013, D’Onta sat in a meeting with his brother at Texas and then-head coach Mack Brown. Armanti received a scholarship offer. D’Onta was offered nothing.
The message D’Onta heard from Brown and Kevin Sumlin was you are an average player, but we want your brother.
Texas finally offered D’Onta after he ran a 4.48 in the 40 at a camp before his senior season. Armanti did not verbally commit to Texas until his brother received and accepted the offer.
D’Onta rushed for 2,102 yards and 31 touchdowns his senior season at Texas City. In every game but one, D’Onta totaled over 100 yards. Missouri knocked at the Foreman twins’ door. By then, Charlie Strong had taken over for Brown as the head coach at Texas and convinced the twins not to take the visit. Armanti and D’Onta followed through with their verbal commitment and signed with UT.
D’Onta saw limited playing time during his freshman season. He competed in seven games and accumulated 73 rushing yards.
This season, D’Onta has played in every game. He started out slowly, rushing for 5 yards against Notre Dame. D’Onta exploded against TCU, rushing for 112 yards and marking his first 100-yard game of his career at UT. The next week against Oklahoma, D’Onta rushed for 117 yards. With back-to-back 100-yard rushing performances, D’Onta became the first player at UT with that accomplishment since Malcolm Brown in 2013.
D’Onta had another explosive game this past weekend against Kansas. He rushed for 157 yards, creating a new career-high and giving him his third 100-yard game of the season.
“I feel like a lot of people underestimated me,†D’Onta told the San Antonio Express-News. “I used that. I felt like I had to show people. I just try to show people they missed out on something.â€
D’Onta has accumulated 534 total rushing yards this season with three games left.
