Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice is leaving the Longhorns to join the Detroit Lions as their new running backs coach under Dan Campbell. Choice, who has been with Texas since 2022, has built an impressive resume, having coached NFL draft picks such as Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, Jonathon Brooks, Keilan Robinson, and Jaydon Blue (who declared for the 2025 draft).
During his tenure at Texas, Choice not only guided players to achieve significant individual accolades—helping Bijan Robinson win the Doak Walker Award, earn unanimous All-American honors, and secure a spot on the First Team All-Big 12 team—but also established himself as a top recruiter. He was instrumental in recruiting elite prospects like Cedric Baxter, Ryan Wingo, Jerrick Gibson, Quintrevion Wisner, and Christian Clark, adding to his reputation for identifying and nurturing talent.
In addition to his achievements at Texas, Choice will reunite with Jahmyr Gibbs, whom he coached at Georgia Tech, as he embarks on his new role with the Lions. His move comes after interest from the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders, marking another significant step in a career defined by player development and recruiting success.
